Rewrititng the Rules of Monopoly

Next time you are playing monopoly and your opponent snaps up too many properties, get the justice department to step in.

Assistant Attorney General for Antitrust Christine Varney claims that the Justice Department can aid economic recovery by prosecuting businesses that have been successful in gaining large market shares. In her announcement last month she argued that “many observers agree” that our current recession reflects “a failure of antitrust” and “inadequate antitrust oversight.”

Clearly our economy failed because Microsoft is too big (forget about all those mortgages, derivatives, and bad government policies). Let’s prosecute the large employers not directly affected by the economic crash.  Brilliant!  Witness the birth of the “Kick ‘Em While They are Down” school of antitrust law.
